Sioux Falls Woman Magazine - Behind the Scenes of Photographing Inkka Beaduion – Magazine Cover
For the last year and a half, I have had the privilege to meet and photograph amazing women in the Sioux Falls area for the empires largest readership: Sioux Falls Woman Magazine. Jared Holsing and his crew are amazing to work with and he has selected some of the most inspiring women to grace the covers of the magazine of which I have absolutely loved photographing.
This year, I want to take you behind the scenes of these amazing shoots and tell you how it was like to meet and work with these incredible women. This year, I started out by photographing the beautiful Del’ Inkka Beaudion (Inkka for short) who is on the cover of the Sioux Falls Woman cover for the months of February & March.
Inkka is the owner of Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen and is also a board member of the South Dakota African American History Museum as well as a member of the Established Sustainable Connections in Sioux Falls. She is also a wife to husband, Julian Beaudion and mother to two beautiful girls, Jamiah and Jalayah. Inkka is 31 years old and has accomplished so much at such a young age. She is also a mother, wife and volunteers in so many areas. Themes that needed to be highlighted during her shoot were career, family, service, and her fun personality which is evident 30 minutes into getting to know Inkka.
Before we started the shoot, we laid out all of the clothing options at photography studio, West Sioux Studios and carefully planned each scene with outfit to highlight these themes. I was thrilled to find that MK Threads, a boutique located next to Inkka’s restaurant had graciously supplied Inkka with gorgeous gowns for the shoot! Win-win! In addition, Chantelle Duncan with 605 Vixen Hair and Makeup was doing hair and makeup of which Inkka and I as her photographer, absolutely loved!
Time to start photographing! The shoot started with head shots of Inkka in a gorgeous red dress following a relaxed family portrait showing the connection between Inkka and her family.
Afterwards, we headed to the restaurant, and although it was freezing cold, we were able to photograph Inkka in the gorgeous scenery that is Downtown Sioux Falls. I am thrilled that this was the image that made it to the cover!
Lastly, we photographed Inkka in front of her restaurant located at 421 N Phillips Ave, Sioux Falls, SD. We took pictures of her standing in front of the restaurant sign as well as inside of the kitchen working her magic! Underneath her Chef’s jacket was another beautiful black dress by MK Threads showing that Inkka is a woman that is both classy and career orientated.
After the shoot, Inkka and her husband bought me and my niece Kahlynn (who was my amazing assistant) coffee and made us Jambalaya to take home! Can you say hospitable?
Thanks to Sioux Falls Woman Magazine for this wonderful opportunity to meet yet another amazing woman in the Sioux Falls area! I’m so glad to have been a part of this issue!
